William B. Krohn
Leader, Maine Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit Dr. Krohn, as Leader of the Maine Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit (CFWRU), is responsible for identifying information needs as related to fish and wildlife issues of interest to Unit Cooperators. In addition to administering the Maine CFWRU, he obtains funds and conducts research on wildlife issues of special concern to Unit Cooperators. His early research focused on the population ecology of the American woodcock and the western Canada goose. Krohn lead a biodiversity assessment of Maine, and his research has emphasized the effects of forestry practices and land-use histories of forest carnivores and their prey, especially the snowshoe hare, Canada lynx, fisher, and American marten. Current research is focusing in on the habitat ecology of hare, lynx, and marten as related to changing forest practices. Ultimately, the results from this research will be integrated into an information management system to facilitate planning for wildlife habitat on commercial forestlands. |
