Dr. Zydlewski is the Assistant Unit Leader - Fisheries at the Maine Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit.

His work centers on the study of fish movements and migrations in the context of ecology, physiology and management. Over the next five years he will be working to develop a program which includes: a) work on juvenile salmon survival in the Penobscot River and regulated rivers under the Endangered Species Act; b) understanding life history overlap of native Maine brook char and invasive species such as smallmouth bass and landlocked salmon; c) understanding the seasonal movements of lake whitefish and potential causes for decline.  Currently funded work utilizes cutting-edge telemetry technology (radio, acoustic and Passive Integrated Transponders).

Physiological metrics of performance will also be used to assess the juvenile development of salmonids.  Directions of fisheries research will be responsive to the requests of MCFWRU cooperators and the Department.
