Research Interests
My primary research interests center around the effects of forest fragmentation on mammals, habitat relationships, predator-prey ecology, animal movements, and ecological thresholds. I include a combination of field research, applied ecology, theoretical ecology, GIS, and spatial modeling techniques to answer questions in the areas of landscape ecology, community ecology, and conservation biology.  My strong focus on field-based research has been developed largely through conducting research on threatened Canada lynx, American martens in Newfoundland (endangered) and Maine, snowshoe hares, and small mammals.

Current Position
Post-Doctoral Research Associate and Associate Graduate Faculty, University of Maine

Lead a landscape planning initiative for northern Maine using American marten and Canada lynx as focal species.  Model current and past habitat conditions, use spatial optimization models to identify tradeoffs among lynx and marten habitat and forest management objectives, quantify net conservation benefit for lynx and marten using alternative harvest scenarios, and quantify anticipated habitat conditions for lynx and marten in the future.  Co-advise a M.S. student on a project researching the spatial ecology of Canada lynx in Maine.
