Winter Ecology

In this course, students study ecological concepts from a winter perspective, and do it in a challenging winter environment.  Students and instructors spend six days in early January in the heart of northern Maine in Baxter State Park.  We access cabins in the park on skis bringing a caravan of sleds over a six-mile access route.  The abundant wildlife of the park and the forest setting provide an excellent opportunity to learn plant and track identification, use winter sampling methods, discuss winter ecology, and gain field experience in winter conditions.
