Research Interests:
Dr. Krohn's early research focused on the population ecology of the American woodcock and the western Canada goose. More recent research has quantified the functional relationships between selected wildlife species and their habitats, and on assessing the status of selected water birds. The fisher, a secretive and large weasel of the northern forests, was almost extirpated from the Northeast in the early 1900s and because it requires a diversity of forest types in large blocks, it is a good indicator of forestland health. Current research is emphasizing the habitat ecology of Canada lynx and this carnivore's main prey, snowshoe hares, and the historical occurrence of selected wildlife species in Maine.
